physiological training

Well I just received an e-mail from our contact at the Reduced Gravity Office at Johnson. As part of our trip we will go through a day of physiological training. Part of this training involves going into the hypobaric-chamber. They will change the oxygen levels in the chamber, and ask us to perform simple tasks. I hear there is a lot of giggling that day. I must admit I am a little bit nervous. We will need to wear a mask similar to a fighter pilot. This just does not appeal to me. For all of you teasing us about getting sick out there, I quote this from the e-mail. As the time to fly gets closer, you may be wondering about getting sick. Happily, most people fly with no problem when they take the anti-nausea medications. I am glad to hear that!!!! Well that is the latest update.

NASA Family Night

For those of you in the area plan on attending our next NASA family night on February 7th. We plan on starting at 7:00 pm in a yet to be determined location at the school. The evening will support our upcoming trip to Houston, and is titled "Toys in Space". Students who participate will have the opportunity to attend a video-conference in the future with NASA officials.

After-School Program

Students in our NASA after-school program watched a video on the experience of micro-gravity flight. We then visited the NASA Explorer School web-site where we looked at pictures of previous flights, and talked about what we will experience in Houston. The plan is to collect ground data next Thursday. The following Thursday will be devoted to creating a poster that will fly with us on the plane. Stay tuned, there is more to come.
